Univolt has once again shown its support for the next generation of electricians, providing free products and accessories to students at the Leeds City College.
Univolt's Darren McDermott has teamed up with Paul Courtney, Programme Manager for Electrical Installation at the School of Sustainable Technologies and Motor Vehicle, who runs the Electrical Installation provision for full time students and apprentices.
Much of the Diploma Level 2 and Apprenticeship Year 1 syllabus within these courses are practical and students are encouraged to learn hands-on with ‘real life’ products and applications. Support and donations via suppliers such as Univolt are critical if these budding electricians are to be given a true taste of life on site.
Paul Courtney commented: “Links to industry with leading suppliers like Dietzel Univolt help everyone involved, the college, the student and the supplier, and I'm very grateful for their support.”.
Univolt has to date supplied a range of materials and samples including 20mm conduit, 100x50 trunking, metal saddles, white surface boxes and sample boxes containing a range of products (off cuts of mini trunking, accessories etc).
Four new Level 3 assessment rigs will be built later on this year, allowing students and apprentices to perform various inspection and testing tasks, including Continuity, Insulation Resistance, Earth Loop Impedance, and RCD tests. Once again, Univolt will be providing the containment and support.
Darren explained: “As a global leader in the supply of cable management products, it’s so important that we encourage and support future generations of skilled tradesmen, ensuring their have the correct equipment, products and materials to hone their skills.
“We're really pleased to be working with Paul Courtney at the Leeds City College Printworks Campus and look forward to building on this relationship in the future.”
